China's research and practice on wetland restoration is relatively late, initially focusing on the eutrophication of lakes. In the 1970s, the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences used the ecological engineering techniques of symbiotic algae in the water ecosystem to improve the water quality of the heavily polluted Hubei Ya'er Lake wetland. Since then, a lot of research has been done on the eutrophication control and ecological restoration of shallow lakes such as Donghu, Chaohu, Dianchi, Taihu, Honghu, Baoanhu, Yaer Lake and Baiyangdian, and many successful experiences have been obtained. The wetland ecological engineering mode of Dongting Lake reduces the amount of sediment entering the lake, stabilizes the wetland area, and ensures the storage and storage function of the lake. The ecological restoration of the lakeside belt in the Bohai Sea, Yunnan Province, proposes ecological restoration techniques for lakeside zones such as aquatic vegetation restoration, shelterbelt or grassland complex system, sewage treatment, and forest-based fish ponds.
