The establishment of nature reserves can reduce the disturbance and damage of human activities to wetlands, and is the basic means to protect wetlands and the wild animals and plants on which they depend. China has established wetland nature reserves since the 1970s. By the end of 2004, China had established 353 wetland nature reserves with an area of 16 million hm2, making 44% of China's natural wetlands and 33 national key protected waterfowls in protected areas. It is well protected. The establishment of these nature reserves has rescued the habitat of a number of endangered wildlife and has played a significant role in maintaining wetland biodiversity and wetland resources. The overall goal of the National Wetland Protection Project Plan is to achieve 713 national wetland reserves and 80 internationally important wetlands by 2030 (India, 2005).
